Dreams — by guest blogger, Photographer, Stephanie Dahlsrud
Everyone has at least one dream or goal they would like to accomplish. Maybe it’s trying out for a play, writing a book, or like me, to have my images featured in a magazine and become the world’s best photographer. Ok, that last part might be a stretch, but it’s good to dream BIG right?!
So what’s holding you back from accomplishing your goal? Usually the biggest obstacle holding us back is ourselves. I know this all too well, I usually have some reason to justify not going after my dream. My go to answer is “I am not good enough”. Many people are far more talented than me; why would anyone want to feature my work?
What I have (finally) realized is, who cares if I am not “good enough”, I won’t accomplish anything without trying, without putting myself out there. These things won’t be handed to you, you do have to work for it, some will be easy to accomplish while others may take longer. Maybe hearing “no” is the hardest part to deal with. Rejection can be tough, but you can’t get a “yes” without trying either. It’s hard not to take rejection personal, but it isn’t always a bad thing. You can choose to view it as an opportunity to grow and better yourself.
I have recently submitted my work to a few places. It’s scary, but regardless of the outcome, I can say I did it. I am one step closer to achieving my dream.
I might not be the world’s best photographer, but I am better than when I first started and I will continue to get better the more I work at it.
The best part of going after your dream isn’t the end result; it’s the journey getting there.
